How does Nuggets work?

Nuggets is an e-commerce payments and ID platform. It stores your personal and payment data securely with blockchain, so you never have to share it with anyone – not even Nuggets. With Nuggets, you create a secure ‘personal cloud’ of data in zero-knowledge storage. Not even Nuggets can access this data. You decide if and when you want to share it, and do so on your own terms. Nuggets gives power back to the people, enabling ‘self-sovereign decentralized identity’ on a mass scale. And it frees companies from the burden of storing and protecting millions of customer records.

What can I use Nuggets Tokens (NUG) for?

You get Nuggets Tokens (NUG) when you sign up, refer, login, pay or verify with Nuggets, and if you choose to share some of your information. Once you have Tokens, you can use them to buy products and services with merchants in the Nuggets ecosystem without compromising your security.

What makes Nuggets different to other identity platforms?

With Nuggets, you can forget about usernames, passwords, and tapping payment details into dozens of different accounts.

Once you’re set up on the app, you can use Nuggets to pay, login or verify your identity using just your fingerprint (or other biometrics). And every time you do, you earn Nuggets Tokens (NUG), which you can spend with any Nuggets partner.

Blockchain technology means you keep control of your information. Nuggets doesn’t share or store your data with anyone, and no one can access it – not even Nuggets itself.

Simple, secure payment: Just select the Nuggets option, confirm with your fingerprint (or other biometrics), and you’re done. Without having to share your personal information. And if you pay with NUG, you save money too!

No more passwords: It’s the same process for logging in to an account. No usernames. No passwords. No ‘What was the name of your mother’s childhood cat?’ And if you ever need to update your details, just do it once – in Nuggets.

Rewards every time: From the moment you sign up, you’re earning NUG. Then you can use them to pay any merchant on the platform. So you can use NUG earned from an airline, say, to help pay for shoes.

No other platform offers all this. There are other identity apps. There are other payment apps. There is nothing that does both, combined with the ultimate security of the blockchain and a token system that rewards you as you go.

Is the Nuggets platform a mobile app only?

Nuggets is available across Mobile (iOS and Android), but you can also use it for services on your desktop – service providers just ping your mobile app for verification.

Is the Nuggets platform free to use?

Yes, Nuggets is free for consumers to use. Merchants pay a small fee every time you use Nuggets to log in, pay or verify your identity through their service.

Is Nuggets available worldwide?

The Nuggets platform is available globally for businesses to integrate with. Why is it called Nuggets?

"Nuggets" was the word used by Alastair, our Founder, to explain how “nuggets” of personal data are encrypted in zero knowledge storage with blockchain. When you decide to share data, the platform only shares the smallest “nugget” of information necessary to complete the transaction.

These nuggets also have value: the more you use the service, the more Nuggets Tokens you’ll gain to pay for products and services. You also gain Tokens by choosing to share data – finally putting a real value on your personal information.

The App & Getting Started

Where can I download the app?

The Nuggets app is currently available for iOS and Android devices. You can download it from the Apple App Store here or the Google Play Store here.

What ID is required?

You can set up Nuggets using any government-issue photo ID. So: passport, driving license, or national ID card.

How should I photograph my ID?

Make sure you photograph your photo ID against a darker background, and with no reflections. One option is to stand your ID up, rather than laying it down on a flat surface, which can often cause glare due to downlighting.

How should I take my selfie?

Make sure your whole head is within the frame, and then follow the instructions on screen.

Where is my data stored?

Nuggets stores your personal and payment data in ‘zero-knowledge storage’, via hashing on the blockchain and then storing in IPFS decentralised storage. This means no one else can access it – not even Nuggets itself. If you choose to share some data, Nuggets will share the minimum required.

What happens when I log in to merchant websites?

If you log in using Nuggets, the merchants receives none of your personal information, unlike other services which often pass your email or phone number. Nuggets users have a ‘personal cloud’ of their personal and payment data secured with blockchain. That means no one else can access it – not even Nuggets. If you choose to share some data, you can – but it’s up to you.

What is my Recovery Phrase and where is it saved?

Nuggets works because you’re the only one who can access your data. The details of your account, and the ‘private key’ that decrypts it, are encoded in the 12-word ‘Recovery Phrase’ Nuggets provides this when you first set up a Nuggets account. We recommend you write these words down and keep them safe – separate from your device.

The Recovery Phrase is securely stored on your device. So if you lose the device you can still access your Nuggets account. After downloading the app just choose ‘Recovery Phrase’ from the menu and enter your recovery phrase. Never give this recovery phrase to anyone ever.

How do I earn and use Nuggets Tokens (NUG)?

As you use Nuggets, you earn Nuggets Tokens (NUG). When you’ve collected enough, you can use them to buy products and services from any participating merchant.

You earn NUG when you first sign up, when you use Nuggets to pay, log in or verify your ID, and when you refer others to Nuggets. You also earn Nuggets if you choose to share some of your data with a merchant.

How are my biometrics used?

Nuggets uses biometrics to verify your identity from your government issued identity and also to access and verify all activity through the app . (Never passwords or usernames.) This includes fingerprint and facial recognition.

Does Nuggets work across mobile and desktop?

Nuggets is available for iOS and Android. But you can use it with participating desktop services too. The merchant site just pings your mobile app, and you verify your ID with your biometrics (fingerprint, etc). No passwords, no security questions.

How do I reset my PIN?

You can reset your PIN in the app. Go to the menu and choose Settings, you will then see the option to ‘Change Access PIN’.

How many different payment cards can I use?

You can use multiple payment cards with Nuggets.

Can Nuggets be used on multiple devices?

If you want your Nuggets account on more than one device, set it up on one device first. Then install it on your extra device(s) and choose ‘Recover account’. Use the 12-word 'Recovery Phrase' from the original installation to complete the new one. (You should have written this down, or you can find it in the menu of the app on the first device.)
